About me:

I am a relational psychotherapist who offers you an opportunity to talk in a relaxed and confidential atmosphere about your life and anything that may be difficult or painful.  My aim is to work together to develop an approach that works for you and helps you to live in a more satisfying and resourceful way.

I have a MSc in counselling and psychotherapy and have had specialist training in helping people to re-evaluate their lives and overcome feelings of despair.  Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked for many years as a consultant physician after qualifying in Medicine at the University of Cambridge.  This work helped me to understand how family background, mental health issues and physical issues combine to make us the people we are today.

My experience

I have worked with stressed young people, older people whose lives have not developed as they expected, and people of all ages who are dealing with bereavement, difficulties in their relationships, or other challenges.  I have also worked with couples and helped them to understand each other’s needs better, and find ways to enjoy their life together more.

Some people prefer to talk mainly about difficulties in the present. Others welcome the opportunity to talk through past experiences and understand where their emotions like anger, sadness and self-doubt first came from, which can make them easier to cope with.

My approach

My relational integrative approach combines person-centred therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy and attachment theory.  I have also received training in Compassion Focused therapy, Internal Family Systems and Couples Therapy.

Our work may focus on addressing and resolving specific problems and developing your understanding of yourself and your relationships with others, as well as stress management or relaxation techniques.  We will work together in a developing relationship that I hope you will find very supportive.  All our work is confidential.  I offer an initial free no-obligation consultation.

My qualifications and memberships

After qualifying in Medicine at Cambridge, I completed a MSc in Clinical Biochemistry and gained further qualifications in management and law.  I gained accreditation as a mediator in the London School of Mediation and completed a MSc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Derby.  My therapy work was accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) in 2022.  I also trained as a Couples therapist and was awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Working with Couples in 2023, which was accredited by the National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists and recognised by the College of Sex and Relationship Therapies.
