ABOUT ME
Hi I’m Andrea (She/Her)
As someone who loves connecting with people, who finds human behaviour fascinating, and is an advocate for individuality and inclusivity, becoming a counsellor felt like a true calling, and every day I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity of listening to client’s share their life stories.
I am passionate about helping people who are struggling to find peace in their lives, either through internal conflict or life’s challenges; my role is to provide support to a greater sense of wellbeing. My aim is to create a safe and calming environment where you will experience compassionate understanding and feel able to express your true thoughts and feelings. Together we will explore your life circumstances – both past and present – to gain a clearer understanding of the challenges you are facing right now. You will receive empathy and non-judgement, and you can be sure you will be listened to and heard with the upmost respect and valuing.
MY EXPERIENCE
I have a Diploma in Gestalt Therapy and have gained experience counselling a diverse range of clients in both educational and private services. During my counsellor training, I worked within a college counselling service and with Online Therapy UK. These opportunities allowed me to develop my skills in supporting both young people and adults from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. I am also experienced in working within both time-limited models (six to ten sessions) and open-ended therapy. Since completing my training, I have continued my working with Online Therapy UK as well as seeing client’s in-person within my private practice.
In addition to my counselling training, my strong interest in Eastern cultures, health, and well-being has led me to study yogic philosophy and other aspects of Eastern traditions. This has enriched my understanding and approach when supporting clients.
MY APPROACH
Gestalt therapy is a creative, holistic approach that considers the whole person – mind, body, spirit – along with their past and present experiences.
As a Gestalt therapist my aim is to explore with you your unique perspective and experience of the world. Through open dialogue, curiosity, and bringing attention to areas that may have been outside of your awareness, we can work together to gain deeper insights into the challenges you are facing.
Gestalt therapy may involve using various techniques designed to help you gain greater awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and actions. These might include using metaphors, objects, cards, body awareness, mindfulness, and breathing exercises. These techniques encourage self-reflection and provide new ways to explore your experiences, helping you make intentional choices and discover meaningful change.
My practice is always underpinned by a person-centred approach ensuring you will experience empathy, transparency, and a non-judgemental space. I will be guided by Gestalt theory and the values and principles laid down in the BACP’s Ethical Framework.
