ABOUT ME
I’m an integrative therapist working online with adults across the UK and internationally. A good deal of my work is with people living with the longer-term effects of trauma: childhood abuse, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, and the relational wounds that can make closeness feel unsafe long after the events themselves have passed.
I train weekly in complex trauma with the Carolyn Spring Trauma Recovery Community, covering the neurobiology of trauma, dissociation, shame and recovery. That grounding shapes how I work. Responses that feel unwanted or hard to explain such as shutting down, disconnecting, staying watchful, struggling to trust usually made sense at the point they developed, and understanding why they are there tends to be more useful than trying to argue with them. I also work with anxiety, depression, PTSD, bereavement and complicated grief, OCD, and long-standing difficulties with self-worth.
Alongside this I have a particular interest in neurodiversity, and work with autistic and ADHD adults, whether diagnosed in childhood, recognised late, or still only suspected. This year I completed Working Therapeutically with Autistic Clients with Counselling Tutor, and regularly attend seminars with The Grove Practice on adult ADHD. I previously worked at Psychiatry-UK with autistic and ADHD adults. In practice the two areas overlap more often than not: years of masking, of being misread, or of managing in an environment that asks a great deal and explains very little.
MY APPROACH
My approach is relational and integrative. That means I draw on various theoretical frameworks including person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, compassion-focused, attachment-based and transactional analysis ideas rather than working from a single model, and that much of the work happens in the relationship between us.
I hold an MA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (Distinction) and a PG Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, both from Leeds Beckett University, and a First Class BSc (Hons) in Counselling Psychology. I’m a BACP Registered Accredited member, and have biweekly clinical group supervision.
I don’t think of therapy as getting over what happened, or becoming easier for other people to be around. It tends to be slower than that: a little more room to breathe, a kinder relationship with yourself, and a clearer sense of who you are underneath what you’ve had to manage.
