ABOUT ME
Hello, my name’s Paul and I am a Humanistic Counselling Therapist.
I aim to provide a space for you to safely express and explore what you are experiencing and feeling, and am curious about what it means to be you. I offer a place for you to be seen and heard without judgement or rejection, and to explore things that may not be easy for you to express with others in your life. We will move at your pace to explore what is happening for you right now.
What of yourself do you find hard to talk about with others?
The stories and events we grow up with become an internal dialogue that can shape the meaning of who we are. These events and stories can be big and life changing or much more subtle. They impact the relationship we have with ourselves, with others and how we feel and think about the world.
What do you struggle with in relationship to others or with yourself?
Working with the principle of mind and body connection, and remaining curious about this, our sessions can help to offer further insights for self-enquiry. In turn this can develop a deeper understanding of your relationship to yourself and to others.
MY EXPERIENCE
I have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling, and have been seeing clients with a variety of presentations long-term and short term in private practice; both face-to-face and online.
For the last 14 years I have worked with people who are either homeless or facing homelessness and have compound and complex support needs. This includes, although not limited to; those with acute mental health conditions such as Schizophrenia and Psychosis, Depression, Anxiety, Complex Post-Traumatic Stress, Trauma, Sexual abuse, Addiction issues, Neurodiversity, Self-harm, Suicidal ideation, Personality disorders and Learning difficulties. I have worked with those in the criminal justice system and have regularly dealt with Mental Health Services and hospitals, courts and a variety of other outreach services dealing with mental health and substance/alcohol use.
MY APPROACH
I am a Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. This means I place you at the centre of our work, and believe that you are the best person to know what is going on for you. My role within our relationship is to empathetically support you to find answers and make choices that work for you. I incorporate relational aspects and theories by using approaches including Creative therapy, Existential, Gestalt, Person-centred, Phenomenological and Transactional Analysis. This means I work with parts of the self; metaphor and imagery; clues from the body, such as sensations and gestures, and relational patterns we notice between us and in your personal life.
As a registered member of BACP I follow their ethical code of conduct and have regular supervision to make sure I am working in the best way possible for you.
