ABOUT ME
Hi, I’m Philippa.
I specialise in helping people to build their self-esteem and develop kinder relationships with themselves through self-compassion. My aim is to help you understand and express who you are, and challenge the idea of who you think you should be.
I believe we are always growing and evolving through different seasons of life, and sometimes need a sense of safety, support or accountability to help us take courageous action, or to slow down and turn inwards.
I relate to the feeling of struggling to find your place in the world. My own experiences with therapy and my interest in human behaviour compelled me to seek the language and psychological tools to understand the impact of childhood wounds, how we keep ourselves safe (and sometimes stuck), and how to make meaningful change. I practice what I preach when it comes to self-compassion and self-acceptance, and would love to guide you on your own path to connecting with your peace.
MY EXPERIENCE
I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling and am a registered member of the BACP. My training and experience is in humanistic and psychodynamic approaches and I have completed further professional development in Transactional Analysis, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as couples and relationship counselling training.
I have supported a wide range of clients experiencing depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and identity issues, relationship difficulties, attachment wounds, self-sabotage and perfectionism through a supervised clinical placement and have worked in a variety of settings, including charities, community interest companies, my own private practice, and residential services supporting individuals with their mental health.
I have experience of delivering both time-limited and open-ended counselling, tailoring my approach to meet each person’s individual needs.
MY APPROACH
I integrate different therapy models to help you understand your emotions, motives and behaviour with more depth and clarity.
I am interested in your history, your sense of self, your wants and needs, your fears, your inner child, and the different parts of yourself you might struggle to accept, but primarily I am interested in what brings you to therapy and how we can approach the problem or goal with curiosity, compassion and courage.
As well as working with the mind and your thoughts, we might also explore what’s going on in your body and nervous system, as well as your external environment, to get a holistic view of your experience. You can expect unconditional empathy and openness from me, as all emotions and elements of the human experience are warmly welcomed.
